Post-Bootcamp Adventures - Run-up to the end of 2023

Well, here we are then - the year of 2023 has come to an end with so many amazing things being achieved in relation to my business idea - starting off the year by being introduced to the Volkert and making a start on my journey to building a fantasy mapping business, going to the Make a Difference Boot Camp, creating my first maps, and putting together a business plan!  To celebrate the end of the year, I would like to provide a summary of the enterprise-related events that I have been to at the University of Suffolk, and elsewhere in the run-up to the Christmas break. Trust me, there are many exciting things that I have to show you this time round! Simon Barrington's Leadership Lecture - 24th November 2023 Originally, I was not going to blog about this experience in anticipation that the content would be too similar to what I was shown in the original running of his session on the 30th of June, but as you will encounter in this excerpt, the organisation of the lecture were slightl

Random Fantasy Maps #4 - Town of Frattisham

Hello and welcome back to the Random Fantasy Maps series, where we will be exploring fantasy map creation from different eras. In this post, I am going to be exploring the process of creating the small town of Frattisham, from which the design is inspired from one of the 25-inch Ordnance Survey 19th century maps.  While this map isn't exactly going to be 25 inches in size due to the constraints that are associated with drawing in an A3 sketchbook, I hope you will find this tutorial useful for producing a historical map in any case! What is the town of Frattisham? Please note that this section was written from a late-19th to early 20th century perspective, so that it is in line with the dates that the old Ordnance Survey maps were published in. Frattisham is a village that has a population of 674 people as of the 1881 census. It was founded in 1763, with the castle being built not long after in 1778, and would subsequently be used as a strategic vantage point in the Battle of Fratti

Random Fantasy Maps #3 - Kingdom of Vergun

Hello, and welcome back to the Random Fantasy Maps series, where I will be showcasing fantasy maps from different eras. In this post I will be exploring the process of making the Kingdom of Vergun, a middle-earth Dungeons and Dragons inspired map that is based on a later timescale. But this Random Fantasy Map is different in that it is defined in terms of how the project came to light, as opposed to it being a change to the fantasy map style from the previous post in this series. How did the project come to fruition? This project came to fruition as a motivation builder for future fantasy map projects that are to come later down the pipeline, after I had been experiencing some sour moments at home which left me in a state where I had very little interest in working on a map. And then the Volkert came to the rescue on the 5th of October to talk things through and to do everything that she could to bring back some motivation - which ultimately ended in me bursting into laughter about com
