Youtubia Part 2 - Provinces

Hello, and welcome to part two of the Youtubia project. In this post, I will be exploring the subject of the continent's provinces.

What are provinces?

As described in part 1, the Youtubia landmass aims to put different content creators on a map as if they were cities, and so each of the continent's provinces are named after different topics that are covered on YouTube.

The Youtubia landmass is divided into 16 different provinces, which work in a similar fashion to real-life countries. Each province has a capital city (two in the case of the Arts Province), where the seat of the provincial government is located. The provinces are governed differently to each other, with different road signs, postcode systems, currencies and legal systems, as well as being located in separate time zones.

Below is a map of the provincial boundaries along with the locations of each of the provincial capitals, as well as the names of the oceans on which the coastlines of the provinces are located:

Map of the 16 provinces

So, what are the basic properties of the 16 provinces?

Arts Province

Located in the north-east of the continent, the Arts province consists of cities named after content creators in the field of music, drama, fine art and cooking.

The province is unique in that it has two capital cities, with Jamietown acting as the legislative and executive capital, and Serena City acting as the judicial capital.

Fashion Province

Located on the east coast, the Fashion province is one of the most densely populated provinces, and consists of cities named after content creators who make fashion content.

The capital city, Zoella, is the second largest city on the continent with a population of 16 million, and is one of the most cosmopolitan and economically connected cities on the continent, with over 400 different languages spoken in the city as well as getting over 20 million tourists annually.

Technology Province

Located in the central-eastern part of the continent, the Technology Province consists of cities that are named after content creators who make videos on computers, gadgets and gaming. It is the second largest province by area and one of three provinces that are landlocked.

The capital city is Linus City, which is home to one of the continent's most important inland logistics centres, being located an equal distance away from three out of four major coastal ports. It is also the third most populous city on the continent with a population of 15 million people.

The province does not include the city of YouTube in the west of the province, as it is a province in its own right (the Youtubia province).

Youtubia Province

Located in an enclave within the west of the Technology Province, it is the only city-province (i.e. a city that is also a province) on the continent, consisting of the city of YouTube which has a combined population of 35 million people. The province is named after their official YouTube channel.

Psychology Province

Located in the south-east of the continent, the cities in the Psychology Province are named after content creators who make videos on psychology and mental health. The capital city of the Psychology Province is the city of Kati, located in the foothills of the Western Range mountains to the north of the province.

Finance Province

The cities of the finance province are named after content creators who make videos on business and financial subjects.

Made up of five large islands in the Gulf of Animals off the south coast of the mainland, it is the only province that does not share a land border with other provinces. The capital city is Dragon's Den, located on the island of Dragonia, and is the least populous of the 17 capital cities, with a population of 550,000 people.

Travel Province

Located in the south-west of the continent, the Travel Province consists of cities named after content creators who make videos on travelling to different places around the world. It is also one of the most visited provinces by tourists, particularly during the colder months, due to the scenic desert landscape, which includes several canyons and some mountain ranges.

It is the largest province by area, but it is also one of the least densely populated, especially in the interior due to the hot desert environment, with most of the provincial population residing on the coastal strip on the west coast.

The capital city of the Travel Province is Binsky City, which is the main economic and cosmopolitan hub of the west coast.

Geography Province

Located on the south-eastern peninsula, the cities of the Geography Province are named after content creators that make videos on interesting maps. Its warm climate attracts tourists from the northern provinces during the winter season, looking for some sunshine and some time away from the cold weather.

The province also contains the Southern Keys, a set of two tropical islands that make up the southernmost point of the continent, located inside the tropics.

The capital city of the Geography Province is Loresville, which is located on the east coast of the province.

Sports Province

Located in the central western part of the continent, the cities of the Sports Province are named after content creators who make videos on sports unrelated to racing and e-sports, and has the shortest coastline of all the provinces that are not landlocked. The capital of the Sports Province is Olympic City, named after the YouTube channel of the International Olympic Committee.

Automobile Province

Located in the north-east, the cities in the Automobile Province are named after content creators who review car models, and as well as content creators who make material on real-life racing as well as real-life truck driving. The capital city is Formula One, named after the YouTube channel of the racing championship series.

Science Province

Located along the south coast, the cities in the province are named after content creators who make videos on chemistry, physics (including astronomy) and biology experiments. The province also hosts the continent's main space centre, the Apollo Space Centre located in the south of the province.

The capital city of the Science Province is Nasa City, named after the YouTube channel of the American space body.

Animal Province

The third largest province by area, the cities in the Animal Province are named after content creators who make videos on pets and animals. The province is located on the south coast, with the provincial capital located at Budzyn City.

The Gulf of Animals, an oceanic body of water, takes its name from the province.

Industrial Province

Located on the continent's northern coast, the cities in the province are named after content creators who make videos on home renovation and DIY, as well as other manual work such as electrical repairs and warehousing. The capital city of the Industrial Province is Handy City.

The coast of the Industrial Province is one of the most visited attractions on the continent due to the rugged cliff landscapes and picturesque sandy beaches.

Philosophy Province

Located to the north of the continent, the cities in the province are named after content creators who make videos on topics ranging from disability and sustainability activism, cultural and religious awareness as well as parenting. The capital city of the Philosophy Province is the city of Burkeville.

Legal Province

A landlocked province that is located towards the north-central part of the continent, its cities are named after content creators who make videos on law, justice and policing, including comedy shows. The capital city of the Legal Province is Providence, named after the legal show Caught in Providence.

Education Province

Located in the north west of the continent, the cities in this province are named after real-life cities in which university institutions are located, as well as after content creators who make videos on nursery rhymes and material that is taught in schools and colleges. The capital city of the Education Province is the city of Harvard (named after Harvard University).

So what is next in this series?

Now that the provinces are defined and the map has been drawn up in a sketchbook, I am now ready to begin working on the landmass using digital graphics programs. It's going to be a load of fun working on the project.

Until next time,

Jakub

Editorial correction on April 30th to say that there are 16 provinces, not 15.

Run-up to the end of 2025 - Secret Maps at the British Library

It's been quite dead on my blog since the last post on the tales of creative writing, and that's because I have been busy in London's big library - so to celebrate the end of the 2025, let's explore the Secret Maps exhibition together and bring the mysteries of mapping alive... The Secret Maps Exhibition So, as is usual in blogposts about events, let's talk about what this exhibition is all about. So, Secret Maps is an exhibition that explores mapping and the theme of secrecy and privacy, ranging from 14th century ideas to the present day, taking place at the British Library from the 24th of October 2025 to the 18th of January 2026.  The map curators at the Library had a very tough task over the previous three years in preparing the exhibition for display; choosing the right themes for the exhibition and having to meticulously pick out 100 of the most relevant items from the Library's extensive map collection (4.3 million maps to be precise), along with contacti...

My experience at the Make a Difference Boot Camp - Days 1 to 3

Let's start this post by telling you that this is a completely different post to what I usually make on this blog. Over the past couple of months, I have been using my blog to discuss my fantasy map projects and the things that make me feel passionate about cartography, as part of a plan to create a business idea out of it. Thus, I have been involved over the last week in a social enterprise programme, and I would like to share the experiences of my time there. The "Make a Difference Boot Camp" is a social enterprise programme that is run jointly by the Enterprise and Entrepreneurship team at the University of Suffolk and Dot-to-Dot Consultancy , a consultancy firm helping people build social enterprise business ideas. It is set to take place over nine days in the months of June and July, with the programme culminating with a pitching event on the 7th of July. Welcome to my blog

Hello readers, Welcome to Jakub's Fantasy Map World, a blog created by Jakub Puk that aims to provide the crossroads between graphics design and computer games and wellness and lifestyle. On this blog, you will see pictures of new designs, what has inspired me to begin this venture, as well as the opinions that have been gathered behind my map designs, as I work towards developing a new retail business.  In addition, I would like to use this space to encourage others to be able to learn graphics design and gain inspirations from my work to make their own fictional maps, and so over time, I intend to pull all the stops to make this family more inclusive, so people from all backgrounds can have fun and have time to relax and take their time. With that being said, let's get ourselves ready, and get going!  With love and until next time, Jakub Puk
