Hello readers,

Welcome to Jakub's Fantasy Map World, a blog created by Jakub Puk that aims to provide the crossroads between graphics design and computer games and wellness and lifestyle. On this blog, you will see pictures of new designs, what has inspired me to begin this venture, as well as the opinions that have been gathered behind my map designs, as I work towards developing a new retail business. 

In addition, I would like to use this space to encourage others to be able to learn graphics design and gain inspirations from my work to make their own fictional maps, and so over time, I intend to pull all the stops to make this family more inclusive, so people from all backgrounds can have fun and have time to relax and take their time.

With that being said, let's get ourselves ready, and get going!

Run-up to the end of 2025 - Secret Maps at the British Library

It's been quite dead on my blog since the last post on the tales of creative writing, and that's because I have been busy in London's big library - so to celebrate the end of the 2025, let's explore the Secret Maps exhibition together and bring the mysteries of mapping alive... The Secret Maps Exhibition So, as is usual in blogposts about events, let's talk about what this exhibition is all about. My opinions on aesthetics in map design... based on academic research

As you may be aware, one of my goals from this project is to provide a calm and relaxing take to fantasy mapping, and so I believe that it is important to explore the theme of aesthetics when designing maps as it plays a big part in this ethos.  Whilst I was conducting some research into the substance of wellness in cartography, I noticed an evolving pattern in map aesthetics over a number of years thanks to the work of some academic researchers. For instance, when I was exploring Alexander Kent's research papers on cartography aesthetics, I noticed a large amount of progress on the subject since the publishing of his first paper in 2005, when at the time, map aesthetics was not a commonly discussed topic and the academic community was beginning to explore the idea, to 2013 when a set of standards for improving map aesthetics was established.  I have also seen an increasing amount of interest recently in integrating social elements when we think about aesthetics in map designs...
